Omega Photonic Systems is developing the future of AI using photonic technologies – improving speed while reducing power consumption. Training AI deep networks and generating inferences from the trained data is highly computationally intensive requiring large numbers of power-hungry processors which will not be sustainable as AI becomes more widespread. Photonic systems provide high degrees of parallelization on a single chip while inherently consuming very little power. One matrix calculation of a neural network can be done in one clock cycle with much less power than current silicon-based systems. As AI is introduced into more systems beyond the large data centers, efficient processors are needed that can be embedded into personal devices, automobiles, and virtually all places where computers are involved today.

AI Systems for fast 3D model generation  

Application specific AI systems are better at finding patterns, filling in missing data, and local adaptive learning for medical diagnoses, modelling of data, object recognition, and controlling multi-input systems in changing environments. Efficient low-power processors using photonics will enable more capability at the end use location that not only generates inferences but checks them for validity thereby producing more reliable AI output. Efficient distributed photonic processors can also bring more local capability to reconnaissance and threat monitoring streamlining the data that may need to be sent back to a central monitoring center.
